[CE] Bottled Schools!!
I can't believe that there are school buildings that are being made out of plastic and glass bottles. A school like that seems pretty neat to me. It is really great how they are building these kinds of schools as a community. It helps with recycling the plastic and glass bottles, and it helps build cheap, new schools with larger classrooms. It kills two of the three birds with one stone. What is the third bird, you ask? Well, it's safety, of course.
The school isn't how a regular building should be built, so the question of how safe it is to be inside of the school will arise. Can it withstand the earthquakes and typhoons in that area? Well, it looks like it can withstand the winds but not earthquakes since the walls don't look strong enough. Maybe that's why there is a big door for people to escape if an earthquake does occur. But still, even though the school is cool and all that, I would rather not be in a school that isn't ready to withstand a little earthquake. It is not like I am against this idea of building environmentally friendly schools; I just think that the school should be both safe and environmentally friendly.
It is not impossible to do. All that needs to be done is to add a few things to make sure it stays standing after an earthquake, such as lots of wires or something like that. It might be more expensive but it is better than having injured people or their lives lost because of the collapse of a building that wasn't built prepared for a little earthquake. So, I hope that the future environmentally friendly schools will not be so cheap that it won't provide safety for the people in the building.

First of all...those kids are hecka cute.
ReplyDeleteA question: the video does not specify that earthquakes are a problem in that region of the world. Are they? I really don't know.
And even if there are quakes that strike the area, wouldn't it be better to have some bottles fall on you than a bunch of cheap steel and concrete? Just askin'.
Thanks for posting this. A very interesting choice of clip and I appreciate your thoughts and questions afterward.
Well when I was reading some of the comments on youtube, there was a person who said that they lived there and that there was earthquakes and typhoons in that area. But other than that, I am not sure myself.
ReplyDeleteAnd you may be right about prefering to have bottles fall on me than a bunch of cheap steel and concrete, but it would still be better if it didn't fall at all since it would just be a mini earthquake.
